Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Concept:
An interactive sorting activity based upon the 'Reduce, Reuse and Recycle' concept and reducing household waste. The die-cuts are used to represent household boxes and the pupils use images of waste products to discuss how they can reduce their household waste and sort the items under the reduce, reuse and recycle headings.
Objective:
To identify how they can reduce their household waste. To understand the terms reduce, reuse and recycle.

Geography – Organise and ask questions about a place, environment or a geographical issue. Ask 'How can I and other people look after this environment?'

- Download and print the file 'Reduce Reuse Recycle Box Template' at A3.
- The file can be used as a template to cut out card to make three boxes.
- Download and print the following files at A3:
'Reduce Reuse Recycle Cards – Reduce – Colour' - Download
'Reduce Reuse Recycle Cards – Reuse – Colour' - Download
'Reduce Reuse Recycle Cards – Recycle – Colour - Download
- Adhere each page to mount board and then cut out using a scalpel/craft knife.
- Cut out each box label: 'Reduce', 'Reuse', 'Recycle' (145mm W x 30mm L).
- Adhere some red, orange and green card onto mount board then die-cut three houses, one from each colour.
- Assemble the recycling boxes and fix one label and one house to the front of each box using Velcro, then fix these onto an A1 board using Velcro.
- For a display board, mount the flash cards onto the A1 board going into the correct boxes.
- For a sorting activity, discuss each flash card and place into the right box.
